SUMMARY:
This is a mobile app designed to foster community, pride, and confidence among teenagers struggling with acne. In a world dominated by unrealistic beauty standards, many youths experience low self-esteem but lack a safe, supportive environment to share their struggles or seek help. The app aims to create an empowering ecosystem that combines a supportive peer community, emotional guidance, personalised skin analysis, tailored skincare recommendations, and access to experts.
Research involving Gen Z individuals with and without acne, as well as parents, revealed that severe acne has a significant impact on self-esteem, and many teenagers feel isolated in their experiences. Additionally, a lack of awareness about individual skin types often leads to ineffective skincare routines. This platform seeks to address both the emotional and practical needs of young people, supporting their confidence and well-being over time.

Online and societal beauty standards pressure youths to achieve flawless skin, leading to low self-esteem among those who struggle with acne. As many do not have an environment to share their struggles and ask for the necessary help, they do not get the physical and emotional support that they need.

Initially, research focused on three stakeholders: Gen Zs with and without acne, and parents. Through insights gathered from the research, I found that self-esteem from severe acne was a very noticeable detail. As youths with acne lack a safe space to express their struggles, they have to deal with their negative emotions alone. Additionally, many lack awareness of their skin type, potentially following ineffective skincare trends.
